St Croix Travel Information
Important things to know for your US Virgin Islands vacation
Language: English is the official language. Spanish is also commonly spoken.
Time: Atlantic Standard Time (AST). During Daylight Savings from March – November, we are at the same time as U.S. East Coast (EST). From November – March St Croix is 1-hour ahead of EST.
Passports: US Passports are not required, but still recommended for travel to the US Virgin Islands. If you want to go to one of the British or French West Indies Islands, which are all very close, you will need your passport!
Currency: The currency is the U.S. Dollar (USD). ATM machines can be found on all 3 islands. The most widely accepted form of credit cards are: Visa and MasterCard.
Driving: Driving is on the left side of the road – English style! (though in US-style cars with the driver on the left) Seatbelts are required by law. It is illegal to drive while speaking on your cell phone. Bring your earpiece!
Weather: April to June is the best time to visit the U.S. Virgin Islands. You can expect mild weather and very little rainfall. July to October is the rainy season. The average temp is 83°.
Transportation: Guests usually reserve a rental car and with my instructions, they drive to the Calypso Suite. Guests are able to park on the compound right outside of the suite.
If guests have not rented a vehicle they are able to take public transportation with VItran (local transportation Co.) or catch a taxi van just 2 blocks away or walk the half mile to the town of Frederiksted and catch the bus there.
The Neighborhood: Sugar Hill By The Sea is located in Frederiksted Southeast, St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. It’s 7 miles from Henry E. Rohlsen Airport.
First of all I enjoy the visual imagery and magic of being in a place where I see the sun and the sea shining back at me each day.
I enjoy all of my neighbors who share this lifestyle with me and the warm feeling that I experience when interacting with them. My guests also experience that feeling too!
